An Afternoon of Art & Music: How to Follow Your Dream and Passion
Live To Love Hong Kong
2011-11-02

A 45 minute presentation and slideshow was given to the students on 9 artists with genres ranging from Impressionist and Abstract to Modern and Contemporary. Artists discussed included Monet, Degas, Picasso, Warhol, Murakami and Zeng Fanzhi. Apart from introducing the artists’ style, technique and masterpieces, each artist’s life story was also touched upon. Essentially, how they each followed their dream, endured hardship and poverty and became successful by pursuing their passion.

Afterward the art presentation, pianist Wong Ka Jeng played a 20-minute repertoire for the students.

My Personal Feelings on A Talk on Art (by Ferida Yang)

As I was giving my presentation to the students, I was unexpectedly surprised that they responded to the slides and content so enthusiastically and interactively. They were able to pronounce each artist’s name perfectly and there was a general excitement or buzz in the air in the auditorium throughout my speech. Some of the artwork were more cartoon-like and aroused their interest while they laughed and cheered at the slide show. Vanessa and I also asked questions throughout the talk and the students were quick and anxious to respond.

Overall, I believe the message of following your dream and pursuing your passion was inspiring to the students. Hopefully, they will all have the courage and determination to follow through with their hopes and dreams and not let any setbacks hold them back. I felt elated and the inner joy and fulfillment was bursting from my heart after the presentation and seeing the students’ reactions and the principal’s gratitude. This is a feeling that money cannot buy and one that will linger in my heart for years to come. Most importantly, it inspires me to continue helping and serving the needy as that, in turn, gives one ultimate joy.
